Jamaican Blue Mountain

We think a little differently about coffee. We Buy coffee differently. We look for different things. We roast it differently and we prepare it based on a different understanding.
We search out the TRUTH. in the cup.
Have you ever wanted to find out if a coffee could be worth R2000 per Kilo or R60 a cup? We did, so we bought some. A whole wooden barrel of it, in fact.
There are three types of Jamaican Blue mountain, There is the "Blue Mountain style” which costs about the same as every other coffee and has dubious provenance.
Blue mountain was once a truly great coffee that got over-hyped, and the good stuff generally goes to Japan, apparently over 85% does! Most roasters will never pay for the real thing, or will blend in cheaper varietals to conform to cost requirements.

We only sell the real thing. Exorbitantly expensive, superlatively, deliciously overindulgent and ultimately worth every drop. It is rare to find a coffee that is able to tick every box on the coffee tasters list and deliver so well in the cup.
Clydesdale Estate was founded in the late 1700s by Dr. Colin McClarty, a British national who came to Jamaica for what he thought would be a short visit but fell in love with the country and decided to stay. It was one of the first estates to plant coffee commercially in Jamaica. This coffee is grown with extreme care and attention to detail. By Jamaican law it needs to be less than 2% defect free. commercial coffees are about 30% defect free and the speciality grades that we often use are considered by most to be defect free if they are less than 10% free of visible defects!

The green coffee beans are shipped in wooden barrels (30kgs) at a cost of R30 000. 30kgs will give 3 roasts at 10kg. Once finished roasting, there is only 8kgs left as coffee loses about 20% of its weight when you roast it!
Grade:       no. 1
Barrel:     no. 100/11/163
Coffee Type:   Typica (a select type of Arabica)
This roasting is of course done in the Artisan way in our pre 1964 Cast-Iron-Drummed vintage Probat roaster which was remanufactured in Belgium last year with modern electronics and controls added.
